Team Lab is an immersive digital art experience, but beyond just the digital, it combines physical elements to help you feel fully in the experience as if it’s another world.
There are multiple locations of Team Lab. Today we’re focusing on the Team Lab Plants in Tokyo. Detail info on location, tickets, etc at the end.
Upon entrance and after you leave your shoes and bags in the locker, the experience entrance has two directions. Once you experience one side, remember to come back to experience the rooms in the other route.
One thing that can help you be prepared before coming to Team Lab Planet is knowing that you will have to take your shoes off for the whole experience. You will also need to roll up your pants, as some rooms have pretty high water levels. There are also a lot of mirrors, including on the floor. Dress accordingly so you can be prepared for this!
One of the rooms you will experience is this infinite room, with floor-to-ceiling light installation where you can interact, control, and make the art reflect desired displays. Of course, any photos in here also look fantastic.
One of my favorite rooms is the room with fish ponds. Most of the time, the light is out, and that’s when the glowing fishes are visible in the water. The experience is fully interactive as the projections are not pre-recorded; the fishes move based on the people in the room and turns into flower when they bump into them.
The garden of eggs feels so elegant and futuristic. The mystic atmosphere felt like you were on another planet.
Overall I say Team Lab Planets is worth it. I have yet to see any other immersive experience done so well. It’s not only artistic but can also be very calming. The rooms mentally transport you to another planet and temporarily forget the world we live outside. The interactive features are easily enjoyable for people of all ages.
You can purchase ticket online or at the vending machine on site. I do suggest purchase in advance online because if the tickets can be sold out on the day or time you desire.
